Animatorly
Privacy notice
Last updated 26 October 2026. This notice covers the Animatorly waitlist, animator logins, public animator profiles and client enquiries. It is written for the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Who we are
Animatorly is operated by Phlack Visuals. Phlack Visuals is the responsible party for the personal information described here.
Contact: [email protected]
What we collect: the waitlist
If you join as an animator, we collect your email address, name, main discipline, the programs you select, your portfolio URL if you give one, your country, the time you consented, and the time you signed up.
If you join as a client, we collect your email address, name or company, the type of animation you need, rough timing, the time you consented, and the time you signed up.
The same email can be on the list once as an animator and once as a client. A second signup for the same role does not create a second record.
Each form has a field people are not meant to see. It is there to catch automated signups. Leave it empty. We do not use it as contact information.
What we collect: animator logins
Animatorly has no passwords. When you ask to log in or sign up, you give us your email address and we email you a one-time link. We collect:
- your email address, and the time you confirmed it by using the link;
- a scrambled copy of the one-time link code, which stops working after 15 minutes or after one use. We do not keep the code itself;
- a login session, kept as a cookie in your browser for about 30 days or until you log out;
- your newsletter choice and the time you made it (see below);
- if you are one of the first 50 animators to open a profile, a founding member number;
- a short counter tied to your IP address, so we can limit repeated login requests. It is not used for anything else.
The session cookie is needed for you to stay logged in. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
What we collect: animator profiles
If you are an animator and fill in a profile, we store what you enter: your name, headline, location, time zone, availability, the kinds of work you take, a starting rate and currency if you give one, languages, a showreel link, your bio and experience, your links, your tags (animation types, programs and skills), and your portfolio pieces, including titles, your role, video links and cover images.
A profile starts as a draft that only you can see. If you choose to make it public, it appears on a page at animatorly.com/animators/ followed by your public number, and in the animator browse page. Anyone on the internet, including search engines, can then see what is on it. You can switch it back to draft at any time, and the page stops showing.
Your email address is never shown on your profile. The public page can show that your email is confirmed and, if you are a founding member, your founding number.
Portfolio cover images are stored on our own hosting. Videos are not stored by us. If a profile shows a YouTube or Vimeo video, your browser loads it from that service, which may set its own cookies. Please only add material you have the right to show.
What we collect: client enquiries
Contacting an animator is free for clients. When you send an enquiry through a profile, we collect your name, your email address, a description of your project, and, if you give them, your budget, your timeline and an extra message. We also record the time you sent it, and that you ticked the box agreeing that your details can be sent to the animator.
We email these details to the animator, with your email address set as the reply address, so the animator can answer you directly. We also store the enquiry. The animator's email address is never shown to you or to anyone else on the site.
Once you have an animator's reply, what you agree with them is between you and the animator. Animatorly does not take a cut and does not handle payments. The animator becomes responsible for how they use the details you sent them.
The enquiry form uses Turnstile, the spam check, and short counters tied to your IP address and to the animator, to limit repeated enquiries. The counters are not used for anything else.
Newsletter
When you sign up, there is a separate box asking whether you want tools of the week and Animatorly news. It is never ticked for you. We record your choice and the time you made it. If you tick it, every newsletter email will have an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop.
Why
For the waitlist, we use your information to write to you when Animatorly opens, when pricing is announced, and when the part you signed up for is ready. If you signed up as an animator, we may also use your discipline, programs, country, and portfolio link to see who is waiting, so the marketplace can open in a useful order.
For logins, we use your email address to let you log in, to confirm that the address is yours, and to keep your account.
For profiles, we use what you enter to show your public page when you choose to publish it, and to let clients find animators by type, program, skill and availability.
For enquiries, we use your details to pass your message to the animator you chose.
The basis is your consent, or your request to log in or to contact an animator. You can withdraw consent any time by emailing us. Withdrawing consent does not undo processing that already happened while you had agreed.
We do not sell personal information. We do not send client details to anyone other than the animator the client chose to contact. Animatorly does not handle payment between a client and an animator, and we do not collect card numbers.
Who processes it for us
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Signups, accounts, profiles and enquiries are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database, and portfolio images are stored in Cloudflare KV storage. Cloudflare also runs Turnstile, the spam check. Turnstile receives a token, and may set a cookie, to decide whether a signup, login or enquiry looks automated. In POPIA terms, Cloudflare is an operator.
Login emails and enquiry emails are sent through Resend, an email delivery service. Resend receives the email address it is sending to and the content of the email so it can deliver it. For an enquiry, that includes the details the client wrote. In POPIA terms, Resend is an operator.
Cloudflare and Resend may process this information outside South Africa, including in the United States and Europe. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Resend's privacy policy is on its website, resend.com.
We do not run our own analytics cookies on this site.
How long we keep it
We keep a waitlist record until you ask us to delete it, or until we no longer need the waitlist, whichever comes first. Joining the waitlist does not open a paid account.
We keep your login account and profile until you ask us to delete it, or you delete it yourself from your account page. Deleting your account removes your profile, portfolio pieces, images, tags, sessions and the enquiries stored for you. It also removes any waitlist signup, as an animator or as a client, made with the same email address, and any login links still unused. Unused login links are removed about a day after they expire. Sessions end when you log out or after about 30 days.
We keep an enquiry for as long as the animator's account exists, or until the client asks us to delete it. Deleting it from our records does not remove the email the animator already received.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can ask us to delete your account and everything stored with it.
Email [email protected]. Tell us the email address you used, and whether it was for the waitlist, for a login, for a profile, for an enquiry, or a combination, so we can find the right records.
You can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za.
Children
Animatorly is for working animators and for clients hiring them. It is not aimed at children. Don't sign up on behalf of a child.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, the date at the top will change. If we later want to use your information for a new purpose, we will tell you and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
